During a discussion today, the topics outlined in the blog post title came up a number of times.
My argument: Every sport requires discipline, patience and timing.
But the more I think about it, it’s not just about sports. It’s about life and our ability to get over challenges; regardless of the outcome.
As much as art imitates life, maybe sports imitates process. I know for a fact that I could type the same lines of text on my other blog and still have the same message. Process is a difficult thing to some, not so much to others, but almost unavoidable to all.
To those who need to use process or deal with issues on or off the field, keep in mind that you can do just about anything… with discipline, patience and timing.

Do you remember having sleepovers as a kid? I do. Late night movies and talking until you can’t remember what your middle name is was standard operating procedure when I was young.
I had two sleepover friends that would trade weekends to act as “brothers”. John Geoffroy and Jason Brown. I loved them both dearly as friends and I wish they were still a part of my life. John was the cool kid with the cool hair and Jason was the really smart, but equally cool dude who never dated until he left high school for no other reason than he wasn’t ready.
My youngest has been having sleepovers this year with more frequency. Which is totally cool, since I love being able to give him a piece of what childhood is all about. The funny thing about having a friend over, however, is that they always camp out in the living room. It becomes a lions den of sorts. It’s actually a very entertaining place to a pre-teen; video games, a large-screen and a surround sound system (not to mention quick access to the fridge) are all completely kick-ass amenities.
But the best part about one of his sleepovers is the pancake breakfast. Whether I make it here or we head out (if, in fact, the kids wake up at some ridiculous hour), the breakfast is a huge part of the sleepover experience.
And you know what? Screw the diet. Screw the carb count.
More sleepovers.

Alright, everyone. It seemed like a season to remember, and it was. It seemed like the Sox were over matched, and they were.
The 2008 season was great and I think there are a ton of roster items to be addressed, but that’ll happen during the winter months and we’ll sit in shock and awe as some trades are made and new faces join the 2009 club.
Personally speaking…
I’m psyched and honored, once again, to be writing an article for A List Apart. This time, I’ve chosen to write an article surrounding information architecture. Don’t know what that is? Join me on December 2nd for a lesson in how you should pay attention to these sets of tasks when you go to build or design your next Web site or application.
Today
Today was an incredible day.
I love Swiss and bacon tied into an omelet.
For the first time in my life I walked down Charles Street in Beacon Hill.
For the first time in my life I walked in the Public Garden and actually sat down.
I spoke to an old friend and it made me think.
The world does not revolve around me, but there are pieces that are directly influenced by my decisions. Knowing this does not make for better decisions.
I’d like to go back and talk to the person who stole the parking space while the car was pulled over, patiently waiting to gain access.
Today I finished a project that had been hanging over my head like a lead balloon. I’m glad it’s over, and I learned something from the process.
Today, I am a heart man. Tomorrow will not change that fact.
Today, I will sleep.

Alright, how did this happen? Suddenly, the Sox are in a fight for first with the Rays and now they’re going to fight the uprising of the evil empire as well. So, this series that starts tomorrow at Fenway will have a big impact on the standings. No, the Sox won’t end up in third place, but they could end up damaging their momentum and creating havoc across RSN.
With the Rays pestering everyone out of nowhere (seriously, this year has been crazy) and the Sox still trying to get their bats to wake up after the All-Star break, this next month is going to have some serious gameplay that could effectively determine the wild card race.
I say bring on NY. Papi is coming back to fight the good fight. Mani will get his head slapped by Ortiz and he’ll be carting his water bottle out to left field again.

Hey everyone! I’ll be back and forth for the next two weeks without a ton of posts. I’m working on the build for a new industry-specific site (UX Professionals) and I need all the spare time I can grab.
Until then… Enjoy the game!
