Two weeks

Hey everyone! I’ll be back and forth for the next two weeks without a ton of posts. I’m working on the build for a new industry-specific site (UX Professionals) and I need all the spare time I can grab.

Until then… Enjoy the game!

thoughts…

  • Schilling will not pitch again. He’ll try, and even sign a deal with someone this off-season for incentives, but he’ll fall short and retire.
  • Manny needs to get his groove back. He’s not hitting long balls this year like he used to.
  • David Ortiz is irreplaceable in the lineup; J. D. Drew is rocking it, but they need both.
  • The Rays are still there… 1.5 games back… and, oh, the Yankees are doing their thing too (5 games behind).
  • This series against the Cardinals has a huge impact on the season.
  • All the changes in MLB coaching lately is totally fine with the exception of firing someone at 3 o’clock in the morning…

Papi, Hazel Mae and… Garfield??

Quick hits:

  • Big Papi goes on the DL with a “slightly” torn tendon in his wrist. Is it or isn’t it? Isn’t saying “slightly torn” akin to “slightly pregnant”?
  • UPDATE: 09:27 AM - It appears as though Papi’s injury will keep him out about 2 months… More as this develops. This word comes from inside the organization. Sean Casey could not be reached for comment…
  • It appears that Toronto-born Hazel Mae is leaving NESN at the end of the month. She didn’t offer up what would be her next endeavor, but there has to be something contract-specific for a larger network happening. I’m sure she’s going to end up in San Diego or somewhere very pleasant.
  • Masterson makes another start tonight and I’m pretty excited to see how he does. His two appearances in the bigs have been nothing but solid. He’s probably going to get at least two starts if Dice-K needs the extra day or so to recover the shoulder.
  • Manny has hit home runs in 3 consecutive games. Nice work, man. Not as good as Chase Utley this year, but still…

Finally, I have to say… I don’t usually post links to non-baseball items, but I may have to start. Every once in a while I run into something that gets my odd humor in a frenzy. The more I think about this site, the more brilliant it is. Check out the life of John Arbuckle WITHOUT Garfield:

Road Kill

The Sox are just having the worst time on the road this year. In the current trip, they’re 1 and 5 with no signs of life. Hopefully Baltimore will be the right place at the right time?

Having had to travel all night probably wasn’t too pretty, but the Sox do get an off-day today as they prepare for a four-game series against the Birds in Fenway South.

Manny is still stuck on 499, jokingĀ  with reporters last night that he didn’t want to hit #500 in Seattle because the press conference would be too late and it would delay them getting to Baltimore. Okay, sure. Although, Wake would have probably not minded since he took the shutout loss (1 to nothing on the wing of Bedard).

Speaking of Bedard: This is the FIRST time I’ve seen Bedard act anything close to “Ace” status since the deal the Mariners did in the Spring for five players. Baltimore has had more accumulative success with their received players than that of the young lefty. I’m sure Seattle is hoping that last night is the beginning of something great and not a one-time event.

So! The Sox fall to 1.5 games behind… ugh… the Rays… and may lose Dice-K depending on how the MRI comes out today. We’ll see…

In his Wake…

Punny.

So! The Wakefield we all know and love was on the mound last night and not his evil twin with the flat, hittable and highly overrated knuckler. Nope. We got the GOOD Wakefield last night and when that dude is on, his knuckleball is in a class by itself. Well, truth be told, he is in a class by himself since he was the only knuckle ball pitcher on any big-league roster as of Opening Day.

With Papi and Manny hitting back-to-back “dingers”, we see three home runs shy for Ramirez to hit 500. I thought for sure it would have happened already, but I guess we’re just lucky he’s making contact and getting on base.

Schilling continues to downplay his initial hardcore stance about surgery over therapy. We’ll see how it all goes…
