The future, if you haven’t noticed this week, is based on the talent of a young group of Fenway pitchers and fielders who will have an immense impact to the Red Sox over the next half decade.
I had the chance to take the nine year-old to his first live Red Sox game today at Fenway Park. It was incredible. A couple of great defensive plays, a home run by a popular rookie and a 1-2-3 save by an incredibly talented closer. My son will probably remember the event, no doubt, but he won’t remember it as much as I will. I am proud and thankful to have had the chance to be someone’s first Fenway experience. It’s like no other in baseball. How appropriate, then, that I wanted to focus on something youthful and just as important to the game.
If you don’t know them by sight, the clockwork delivery in the photo above is: Clay Buchholz, Jon Papelbon, Jon Lester, Dustin Pedroia and Jacoby Ellsbury. Get used to their faces. We’ll be seeing them a lot more starting this and next year.
Theo played his cards right. He started scouting and when he couldn’t get something he wanted, he took a couple of sandwich picks and lo and behold: a magical, young combination of talent that will blossom into the next coming of the Indians or Yankees in the 90s. Who’s to say they’ll win our fair share of division titles moving forward over the next few years.
I love our chances.
