Road Kill

The Sox are just having the worst time on the road this year. In the current trip, they’re 1 and 5 with no signs of life. Hopefully Baltimore will be the right place at the right time?

Having had to travel all night probably wasn’t too pretty, but the Sox do get an off-day today as they prepare for a four-game series against the Birds in Fenway South.

Manny is still stuck on 499, joking  with reporters last night that he didn’t want to hit #500 in Seattle because the press conference would be too late and it would delay them getting to Baltimore. Okay, sure. Although, Wake would have probably not minded since he took the shutout loss (1 to nothing on the wing of Bedard).

Speaking of Bedard: This is the FIRST time I’ve seen Bedard act anything close to “Ace” status since the deal the Mariners did in the Spring for five players. Baltimore has had more accumulative success with their received players than that of the young lefty. I’m sure Seattle is hoping that last night is the beginning of something great and not a one-time event.

So! The Sox fall to 1.5 games behind… ugh… the Rays… and may lose Dice-K depending on how the MRI comes out today. We’ll see…

Don’t look behind you.

The Sox have lost two MORE on the road and the Tampa Bay Rays are back to half a game back in second.

People realize that power numbers are down across baseball, but this is a little bit much. Manny needs to get his groove on and correct whatever it is he says he’s found and Papi needs to decide if his knee is going to hold him back and take a few days.

Everyone in RSN is hoping for a nice spot at the All-Star Break; and that spot shouldn’t be second place to the Rays.

Seriously?

Beckett starts the game with five straight strikeouts.

The Rays. The Tampa Bay Rays. Winners of SIX straight and the first sweep of Boston in their roller coaster (kiddie roller coaster) history.

Everyone on the team is thinking the same thing: That trip overseas sucked and it sucked the life and heart out of most of the team. It’s too much and it shouldn’t be done. Enough said.

The Sox just went up against the best bullpen in the majors. That’s right, the Rays have the best mark and they’ve NEVER been this good this late into a season. Ever.

Boggling minds and inciting passion in a place where baseball ranks third (football and strip joints being the other two), the Rays are coming on strong this year and they’ve finally got a nice mixture of young and veteran talent to do it. Unlike the seasons where Wade Boggs was supposed to be the meal ticket (1998/1999, 213 games, 9 HR, 200 hits, 81 RBIs and 1.3 innings pitched in 1999 where he collected a 6.75 ERA).

The flu and some injuries have put the Sox on the hot seat. How does third place behind Baltimore and Tampa Bay (tied for first) sound? How about WEIRD? It sounds weird.

Curt can’t shoulder the load.

Oy. Horrible pun.

Let’s take a moment to understand Curt’s situation. He’s hurt, with a set of shoulder injuries that will never go away, and, according to his long-trusted shoulder specialist, the rehabilitation that the Red Sox would like him to do (and he begrudgingly is doing) will absolutely not work.

Essentially, by following the Red Sox advice, Curt Schilling WILL, in fact, cost them about $8 million. If he doesn’t pitch this year and ends up having surgery, he’ll not only be paid the original money he would not have gotten had he gone against the wishes of the team and had the surgery on his own, he’ll also extend the length of time it took him to heal.

Nice.

So, we’re essentially waiting for a press conference that will state that his year is over and that “he tried to follow the team’s advice in an effort to not disappoint or bring about a legal mess even though he initially (and still) was aware that surgery was his best course of action but now he’s being forced into a corner just like he was when he opted to not elect surgery in the first place”!

Whatever. Just have the damned surgery and be done with it.

I’m very appreciative of the effort and the part that Curt Schilling has played in the two World Series championship seasons. Either have the surgery and walk away without the money if you’re worried your career will be over (you’ve made millions already, Curt) or don’t have the surgery until it’s ok to take the money with the team’s permission. Either way, you’ll more than likely never pitch for the Sox again and all of this is for nothing.

My wish? Let’s be done with this before the season begins.

It wasn’t a trial…

but people seem to think it was.

Clemens should have been challenged harder than he was. He should have been incessantly reminded of how perjury works. He should have told the truth. Yep, that is absolutely my opinion.

The Congressional hearings that took place had two liars and a lawyer at the table. Plain and simple. The two “defendants” had their chance to state, under oath, that they were telling the truth. They both stuck to their stories.  They both have credibility issues. They both have things they’re hiding and are very afraid for anyone to know.

What a joke this hearing was.

I’m just glad it’s over.
